An Austrian saxophonist at home in both the fields of jazz and classical music, Preinfalk started taking clarinet lessons aged 9, and the saxo-phone shortly afterwards.

Years of studies culminated in classical saxophone at Serge Bertocchi in Paris.

Since 2000 Preinfalk has been a member of Klangforum Wien, and made guest performances with orchestras such as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland Pfalz and the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. He has performed contemporary music with various ensembles, as well as chamber music _ some composed for him.

Preinfalk has played jazz with the likes of Django Bates, Peter Mad-sen, Don Byron, Terry Bozzio, Alex Machacek, Georg Breinschmid, Harri Stojka, and been part of big bands like "Nouvelle Cuisine", the "Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra", the "Jazz Big Band Graz" and the Vienna Art Orchestra, as well as composing his own projects.

Preinfalk has also worked as a theatre composer, writing the music to Peer Gynt and various productions directed by Michael Sturminger.

In 2011 Preinfalk was appointed as a university professor of saxophone at the Kunstuniversität Graz.
